Treatment Foster Care provides children and youth that have been removed from their home due to neglect or abuse with a safe, loving, community-based environment in which the child can heal. Treatment Foster Youth have severe emotional, behavioral, and developmental problems, including conduct disorders, depression, difficulty in school and impaired social relationships.

Lutheran Family Services of Virginia's Treatment Foster Care program provides care for children of all ages, races, and cultures. These children are placed with well trained Foster Parents in their community, attend public school in their communities, participate in community functions, and live as family members where they learn to trust and develop familial bonds. The youth are provided with hope and healing, with the goal for them to become contributing members of society, and loving, non-abusive parents, thereby breaking the cycle of abuse and violence.

Levels of Treatment Foster Care are based upon the needs of the young person.  Independent living skills training is an integral part of support for each level of care.

Non-Therapeutic Foster Care and four levels of Treatment Foster Care are offered.  All levels include Comprehensive Case Management Services, Independent Living and Social Skills Training as appropriate to a child’s needs.  Therapeutic Support Services and/or Specialized Clinical Support Services are included with higher levels.  Frequency of case management activities and amount of respite services provided increases with intensity levels.

Specialized services are offered for teen mothers and youth with developmental disabilities.  Check with your local Lutheran Family Services office for availability.

A child in need is waiting for the right parents every day
