Developmental Services for Autism, available in the Lutheran Family Services of Virginia's Home Based Family Services program, help children with autism and their families reduce or eliminate problems that can lead to the children being at risk of foster care or other placement. Lutheran Family Services of Virginia's staff arranges for respite care for parents, and teaches them behavior management techniques to help them with their child's unique difficulties. Assistance is also provided to schools to improve the child's performance. Other support services help avoid out-of-home placement.
