Shenandoah Valley Grief Services, a program of Lutheran Family
Services of Virginia, provides a supportive and safe environment for
grieving individuals to share and validate their feelings of grief
and loss; community education on grief and loss issues; and support
during times of crisis or disaster response. Housed at Grace
Lutheran Church in Waynesboro, VA, SVGS serves Augusta, Rockingham,
Page, and Shenandoah counties and the cities of Harrisonburg,
Staunton, and Waynesboro.
Grief Support Services
- Grief support groups for adults, teens and children
- Educational workshops and seminars on loss
- Community support meetings
- Support to schools following loss or traumatic events
- Consultations and referrals
- Debriefings about critical incidents, crises and natural or
human-made disasters
- A grief lending library
Types of loss that may be addressed in support meetings or support
groups:
- Death of a loved one or friend
- Separation and/or divorce
- Losses that accompany aging
- Death of a pet
- Job loss
- Suicide
- Traumatic event or crisis
