Partnerships & Volunteer Opportunities
There are many ways that churches, civic groups, businesses and individuals can support the children and families of Lutheran Family Services of Virginia. You can volunteer your time, share your expertise or give a donation of money or items. Please call the office nearest you for details and more information.
- Learn about us
Invite us to speak at your organization and distribute information about becoming a foster or adoptive parent or mentor to new members. You can also put a link on your web page to us.
- Host "fosterware" or "adoptware" parties
You provide the invitees, we provide the invitation, program, refreshments and door prizes. The foster parent recruiter/trainers at the office nearest you will be happy to help set up a party.
- Celebrate foster and adoption month awareness
Foster Care Awareness Month is in May and Adoption Awareness Month is in November. Activities held during these months help bring attention to the great need for foster and adoptive parents.
- Sponsor a camp or a class for a child
Enrichment opportunities can lead to a lifelong interest. Sponsor a child's sport interest, karate camp, music lessons or other activity.
- Help young people seeking careers
Share your expertise with young people who are getting ready to leave foster care to live on their own. A career day presentation to our independent living skills groups is a great way to introduce young people aging out of foster care to potential career pathways.
- Find out how you can mentor a child
MentorMatch is a federally funded program run by Lutheran Family Services that connects caring adults with young people in the juvenile justice and foster care system.
- Donate items for children in foster care
Children in foster care or community-based clients often need a variety of things, such as personal care items, school supplies, luggage, and even household supplies for those who will be soon living on their own. Please call the office nearest you to find out what kinds of items are needed.
- Give seasonal gifts
Ideas would include food baskets for families, and gift cards, movie passes, overnight bag or small luggage, locking diary, picture frames, photo albums and similar gifts for young people.
